Hello.

By cable, I assume you mean CableTV? You do not need any subscription or service to connect a DVD player.

But you will definitely need a wire, such as HDMI or Component to connect them together. Usually, if your DVD is new, just connect an HDMi wire directly from the rear of the DVD player to the Samsung TV.
