I am using media composer 5.0. I'm importing an MP4 file and it's taking hours to convert. Do I have a choice to convert my mp4 to a quicktime file so that I can bypass the conversion to a QT file?

Solution
Check your software - see if there are any automatic settings to initiate a conversion.

Use task manager to see what processes or services start running when you start the file import.

May help you trackdown the application involved.
Not following your question per se.

So you import an .mp4 to convert to .mov?

But as I understand the Quick Time specifications, QuickTime should handle .mp4 files directly.

Or does your editing process force the use of some interim format?

I have no idea. All I know is that after I imported the MP4 it started converting to QT file and it took about 3 hours for a 2 hr movie. It's my first time at the rodeo so I dont know why it took so long.
