How do I set up Line Out/In and Mic ports for surround sound?

My motherboard manual says it's 5.1 channel audio, and there's only 3 slots (line in, headphone, mic) and I have this:http/www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00711ST5O/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
system. If I plug the headphone jack into the front slot, then the front speakers work. If i plug it into the sub/centre, the sub/centre speakers work and same goes for the rear speakers. However, the orange and black cord going to line and mic don't work.

Setup:

1) Physically make sure the speakers are all plugged into the Subwoofer properly.

2) Physically connect the three wires from the Subwoofer to the motherboard audio

3) SOFTWARE is properly downloaded and setup.

When you plug in the HEADPHONES that should MUTE the desktop speakers normally if you have your software setup correctly. You may also have to remember to switch the software between 5.1 and stereo mode.

Other:
I'm not quite sure what your problems are, other than perhaps you don't have the SOFTWARE setup correctly. Make sure to run the TEST:
a) right-click audio icon (lower right in System Tray)
b) select "Playback Devices"
c) make sure "Realtek" is selected as DEFAULT (I assume it's Realtek)
d) click "Configure", make sure it is "5.1" then TEST

Again, don't forget the SOFTWARE for your sound from the motherboard support site, or Realtek itself as applicable.

3) As far as I can tell all of my drivers are up to date, and the manual says nothing about software. Any tips?
When I do test the Surround sound option is greyed out.
No sound is coming from my monitor, which means everything is good there.

Hmm...
a) By SOFTWARE, I mean the Realtek software (likely). You didn't list your motherboard model but it's usually Realtek for onboard audio. The drivers and software for that are usually one package.

You should have a REALTEK control panel you can configure as well.

b) SURROUND is greyed out?
Is it possible the wrong AUDIO solution is selected in "Playback Devices"?

I'm not quite sure where the problem is, but the "5.1 Surround" option should be available here. The ONLY thing I can think of would be:
1) Broken speakers
2) Software not installed (audio from motherboard support site)
3) Audio not correctly selected (Playback Devices)

I also don't know why you mention your MONITOR. Do you have a desktop monitor with speakers connected via an HDMI cable? That shouldn't matter if you didn't choose the audio solution for your GRAPHICS solution but I recommend just using a DVI cable instead if that's the case and you don't need HDMI.

I went out and bought a headphone jack splitter and now all the speakers/sub is working. The option is still greyed out though, so for now it's just stereo i think. I'm listening to music on it now so I know no speakers are broken or anything. So either I misunderstood something and my motherboard can't handle 5.1 surround sound or I just can't find the software.

**I recommend getting the audio package from HERE instead of your motherboard site as it's the same one but newer. I don't think I can link directly but here's the details (R2.73 2013/11/11 199261k). So it's the 64-bit package that's about 200MB.

I also recommend reinstalling your "all-in-one" drivers (W7 64-bit linked):

Your motherboard DOES support 5.1. I believe you have a SOFTWARE glitch of some kind. Hopefully the above sorts it out.

Other:
Ah, you meant "monitor" as in speakers (i.e Studio Monitor). I avoid the term as it gets confusing.

If you are uncertain if you installed the main drivers (all-in-one) do that. It won't hurt to reinstall anyway.

You should then have a REALTEK link in the System Tray and Program Files.
