How do I set up technics av control receiver sa-gx190 to my Westinghouse 55' lcd tv for surround sound

That receiver seems to be stereo not surround sound. If would only have analog stereo inputs. If your TV doesn't have analog audio outputs (either headphone or line level) but does have optical audio out you would need one of these

I have the same receiver but an LG TV. I did buy a dac not the one through parts express but still have trouble getting any sound out. I also turned on the optical output without any success. I'm pretty good with audio but this I'm stumped. Any sugestions

Check your TVs audio menu. You may have to change the audio type for the DAC to work. The one I linked to would work for 5.1 or stereo (some don't).

@americanaudiophile thanks for the advice. I should have bought the one you referenced from the beginning. That's the one I was going to go with originally. I guess that's what I get for trying to be cheap. Anyway, I returned the one that didn't work and bought the one from parts express. Got it in the mail sometime Sat, hooked it up that night and it works like a charm. Thanks.
