how do i watch the roku streaming stick on my hp laptop?

Unless the laptop has HDMI input, you can't, most genral purpose laptops only have HDMI output.

There are not many services that you can get through the ROKU that you can't get on your laptop, why not simply go to the web sites and watch that on your laptop? Netflix, Hulu, youtube, ustream, many others, work just fine on a computer. What exactly are you trying to watch?
