Question How long does it take smartphone technology to make its way into the mainstream phones at a lower price?

How long does it take smartphone technology which is introduced in the newer expensive models to make its way into the mainstream phones at a lower price?
For example The newest phones have better camera technology that older phones.
How long might the camera quality in a say $1200+ phone be available in a $850 phone?

I ask because my current phone is OK, but I'd like a nicer camera. The newer phones are good but even they aren't as good as I'd like. So if next year the high end phones have a camera I want, I am wondering how long until that affordable. I'm guessing 3 years from now. (1 year for tech improvement, 2 for a wider implementation)

I thinks with in one year, as soon as new models are out the old one get cheaper and as the tech grew it might be just matter of months.
