Solution
Only you can really answer that question because it depends on your expectations. The higher your expectations the soon you will want to buy a new laptop.

For example, I built a PC using the Intel Q9450 back in early 2008 and I upgrade to an i5-4670k in mid 2014. I upgraded because I figured why not. The Q9450 was still performing good enough for me in games even though it is over 6 years old. I upgraded because I just wanted something newer. The Q9450 still functions fine and I continue to use it.
It will 'last' until about 24 hours after it fails to meet your expectations in some application/game that you want to run.

It will last as long as you don't power it up 😉
I have a laptop (original Vista, upgraded to Windows 7) for close to eight years. Usable - yes.
