How to connect a DVD HDMI media stream to a older model tv

Solution
Well, received everything (DVD and cables). It was very easy to hook up and everything is working the way it should. The problem is that, apparently, I still cannot get my pc to just display on the TV. I am able to connect via DLNA. I am able to connect to my phone. I have Netflix, sound and all. The problem is the apps are terrible to work with which is why I wanted my pc's desktop. The Netflix app is chopped off on one side. The device is difficult to navigate and without a keyboard, arrowing through to each letter to spell out a title is very annoying. Also I have to use Windows Media Player to listen to music, problem is all my pictures and music is on clouds and apparently THAT doesn't transfer over to the TV even though...

I've been struggling with this issue for years. I have a CRT HDTV with DVI-D input, Component Inputs (480i/480p/720p/1080i) (Pr/Pb/Y/R/L), S-Video, and VGA/RCA(?) audio/video input. I don't want to lose quality by very much so I don't want to buy one of those $15 VGA converters. I want to hook up my laptop which has HDMI and a Headphones (3.5mm) output to my TV.

I already have a DVI-D (male to male) cord.

Would this work:

1) For VIDEO, purchase: DVI-D female to HDMI male F/M adapter 24+1 LCD HDTV DVD http:// $2.99

2) For Audio, purchase: 12ft Aux Audio 3.5mm Stereo Male to 2 RCA Y CABLE FOR IPOD MP3 http:// $3.69

For $7, I should be able to connect my laptop or any device (DVD) that has hdmi AND audio outputs to my TV? Am I correct in this configuration?

Ouch, $69.95 - could put that towards a new TV. If it were < $30, I'd buy it. Thank you, though for what I need. I never thought about them not working simultaneously. Sounds like I'd have to fool around a lot with pc settings to MAYBE get it to work. As for another device, like a dvd player, I wonder if it would work. I might spring for the $7 just to satisfy my own curiosity now that I've already invested hours trying to figure this out.

LOL, I've been in the market for a new TV for a couple years now, but it's so complicated I just give up and live with what I have. I don't want to be stuck like this again.

I think I have found a better solution, but am waiting for confirmation from Panasonic as I don't have the DVD player yet. I just ordered the a Panasonic DMP-BDT225 (aka 230) blu-ray DVD player ($35) that is "smart". Supoosedly, I should be able to connect to my internet wi-fi and my phone with this player. I think it even has a web browser. Checking the documentation, it looks like it has an optical audio output. Then I found this HDMI to DVI-D/ optical cable Kit for $5.99. http://

I am hoping this will be a good fix to the whole HDMI problem and I can avoid buying another TV and will give good quality video and audio. Will keep posted with the outcome.

The web browser on the DVD Player is worthless. I'm so glad I found out how inadequate the apps and features are for $40 and not on a $1000+ TV. I won't be investing in a new TV until I can connect my pc wirelessly AND HAVE MY PC. Why can't they just allow a wireless display connection for a laptop since it works when plugging in via an HDMI?

BUT, THE CONNECTIONS WORK! Just don't believe the hype, because I probably won't use this for much more than a basic DVD player with occasional Netflix streaming AFTER I find what I want to watch on my laptop.
