How to download mac laptop to mac desk computer

I have material on my laptop that I need to transfer to my desk computer. How do I do this?

use a usb thumb drive.

Thumb drive, or an ethernet cable.

You can even use firewire cable if you have it.

Restart the laptop while holding down "T". The desktop should mount the laptop's hard drive.
