How to find a stolen ipad

My son's step dad stoled my ipad 3 on tuesday this week. He apparently deleivered it yesterdayfor payment. Can I use the serial number to track it

No. You would need special tracking software like Prey or LoJack installed. Call the police and hope for the best.

Unfortunately the police probably can't do anything unless you can prove it except ask if he took it. Or ask to come in and search the residence. Keyword ASK, as from the little information you gave us it just sounds like you suspect he did it and it's not really good enough for the police to do much if anything except mabey take a police report.

My friend who works at an apple store says that they may be able to help you. If you purchased the ipad from apple and give them your serial # and proof of ID, they may be able to help you track it.

I don't know if the stores around you will do the same though, but it is worth a try. Also, they probably can't do anything once they track it, you would have to give that info to the police.
