How to fix led backlight?

My VAIO laptop's screen shows a faint image (mostly black screen). However, the power is on and when connected to an external monitor through HDMI, I can see everything - even the touch screen is working. In fact, that's how I am writing to you. Please explain what is the "led backlight" that may need fixing? And... How can I do it?

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help in solving the issue.
- First you'll need to open up your laptop and check if the ribbon cable that connects the LCD display to the motherboard and to the LCD itself.
- If it's seated properly that means you may need to replace the LCD itself or just the LED if you can find a replacement to lessen the cause.
