How to format and install windows 7 to new acer laptop

i bought a acer laptop 5733z, i had installed the windows 7 64 bit during installation itself an error occurs on "installing updates".then i moved to put os windows xp sp3 it was installed but not wroking properly ie.,when it has gone stand by mode to normal mode display is not coming.i decided send the laptop to dealer itself ,he just put windows 7 os easily.....is the problem in cd or any setting to be done in laptop????

Typically with every new laptop/notebook/netbook a recovery CD is provided or there is a recovery partition on the drive to allow one to recover if things go sideways.

Now you mentioned an error message when installing the updates?
What was the error message?
Usually update errors may occur and is usually easy to resolve.

As for the disk itself, ask the dealer what they used to install the operating system onto your laptop.
