How to format sd card on phone

I have and android phone and I brought a new sd card and the phone said it was damage then it said to format what should I do.

Hey friends,

Thank you for your valuable suggestion, when a memory card is formatted, all data on the card is permanently lost. Some memory cards are supplied reformatted and others require formatting. Consult your retailer to find out if you must format the memory card before you can use it.

Fisrt connect your sd card to ur pc..right click>properties>tools TAB then select error check....mostly works with me.if not ur card is faulty or formatted with a file system not supported by your phone
