How to get 5.1 surround from my speakers?

Hi!

My setup currently is a xonar d2x and the surround setup that i just got from my sister.
Here are the connections on the soundcard :

and here are the connections on the sound card :

The way i've tried it as of right now is using the optical cable on the motherboard and only getting a 2.1 sound. Then i tried the 3.5mm - to - the two ports on the sound card on the right ports (forgot the name of the connections) and getting pretty much the same result regardless of software tweaking in the xonar audio centre.

Any suggestions as to how i can get a true 5.1 sound?

From looking at all that it seems that your connections are not compatible. Your amplifier requires an optical cable for 5.1 and your soundcard requires a coax cable for 5.1.

You can convert the coax digital out to optical.
