Hi. I am having Ubuntu 7.04 ver and a Acer Laptop with SATA Hard Disk. This Laptop comes with Linus OS for free, and runs only in command prompt. On loading Ubuntu, with GUI ver, "X-Server error" msg flashes on the screen. I m having Bother board utility CD, but of no use.. Yous help ll be appriciated... Aj Singh.

This has nothing to do with the sata hard disk , might be a video card drive(module) issue. Try a newer version of ubuntu 9.10 is out. It could also just be configuration settings with X, think of it as the gui manager for ubuntu. Just try 9.10 first

^Agreed. Try 9.10 or try the latest Fedora or OpenSUSE distro. Imo, Ubuntu is over hyped.

OpenSUSE: http://www.opensuse.org/en/

Note: Grab the Live CD, NOT the full installation to see if it works.
