Alright people,

Firstly, I know very little about electric circuits.

For a long time I've been interested in connecting an LED strip to my speakers / amplifier to 'pulse' or whatever to the bass. There are a few videos on YouTube with this "mod", but there are endless comments about the amp blowing the LED's as there's too much power being put through them.

A few comments suggest using resistors, but could someone please explain what resistors would be needed, and how you would put them into the 'circuit'? It'd be also really helpful if you could mention where you can get them from!

Thanks in advance!

Notes (you probably don't need to see these but ayo):

The amp I'm using look a bit like this:

The speakers I'm using look like this:

The exact LED strip:

Am a little surprised people is been trying to do this thing for ages and you can't buy something off-the-shelf, you have to DIY? If you are asking, don't know your volts from you amps, buy it off-the-shelf, try parts-express.com, and lots of Chinese vendors are listing on Amazon now.

With the amount of people getting into this sort of stuff, there's definitely a lot of money to be made from such a device! Would be very cool if there was a box that you could have connected between speakers and LEDs!

Might have to delete this thread and create the product myself, don't want companies stealing our ideas!;)

First off anything can be done. Here's a link to something like that I created.

I wanted to light up this truck grill in my garage and then I decided to go with the music. I ended up following two different frequency ranges. Not 2 channels. In a way it is complicated but also easy.
I used an old atx computer power supply to power an amp for the higher voltage headlights and lower voltage running lights. I burned out a lot of bulbs getting this to work right as music is ac and the LEDs are DC. Had to also create my own circuitry to be able to to discreetly pass off excess voltage. Now am in the process of getting a new circuit that will light up a strip light behind the grill when the music is at a crescendo. I looked into it and didn't find anything out that could do what I really wanted to but fortunately you can get components to build one. The biggest problem is the various voltage that is output during music and also with the volume. If I get the third stage working right I will share more.
