It's not a matter of cutting wires. They are different video formats. The breakout cables you see online require your PC to be able to output composite video via the VGA port. If yours' can't it is useless.
The video uses resistors to mix the red green and blue pictures together. You would lose a lot of single if it worked at all.

You will also need a separate audio connection since VGA doesn't support audio. Use the headphone or audio output of the PC.
