As the most popular email service, Gmail or better said Google, has several options to make your account more secure. Chances are you’re using Gmail for something, be it business reasons or personal. Either way, you should make sure to secure your account in any way you can.

Some of the things you can do all by yourself without Google’s aid. For example, if you have to use a public computer, don’t forget to sign out and clear out cookies, cache, passwords and any other things that can endanger your account security. That being said, here’s what you can do to make your Gmail account more secure.

    ■ Type www.google.com in your favorite browser’s address bar and press Enter.

    ■ Click on the blue Sign In button (if you’re not logged in) in the top right corner and provide your credentials to log in to your account.

    ■ One of the first things you can do is to do a Security Checkup by clicking on it. This will be like a mini-tutorial where you’ll follow on-screen instructions to check your account security.

    ■ To increase security, you can enable the 2-step verification. To find it, just scroll down until you reach Signing in to Google section, and then look on the right side of the page. When you enable this, every time you enter a password for your Google account, you’ll then need a code that will be sent to your phone, to actually sing in.

    ■ Another thing to do is to check your Account recovery options, found right below 2-step verification. This will enable Google to contact you on your other email address or phone if you forget your password or can’t access your account.

    ■ When it comes to account security, a lot of the times it comes all down to you. Always use strong passwords and watch out for untrusted sites. Whatever you do, don’t take your account security lightly and be careful at all times.
