Hi all,

Appreciate your advise on me trying to get 5.1 surround sound with details for your perspective below:

I am trying to get surround sound for my PC (CPU: Asus Maximum VII Ranger which supports 5.1, “CPU”) which hooked to a TV via HDMI and I want to play 5.1 surround sound via Panasonic Home Theatre System 5.1 surround (“System”). System is connected to my CPU via an optical cable.

System:

CPU:

TV: Sony Bravia 32’ inch series

I am on windows 8.1.

After couple of advises from friends, I managed to get the above accessories. Further, I am able to set my sound system in control panel to “5.1 Surround Sound” instead of regular stereo. But I only able to get both my front right and left speakers worked when I do anything in PC (play songs, video (which supports AAC3 or DTS), games (like StarCraft 2 which I set the sound to 5.1 surround following windows), windows system sound), the rest of the speakers (center, rear left and right, and woofer) are not producing any sound.

I have checked the settings in the System to non-stereo, but no luck.

To see if it has 5.1 sound, I have used my Sony Z3 phone to connect to the System via blue tooth and play music, all 6 speakers worked like 5.1 surround sound!

I have no more clue how to move on from here. Appreciate your guidance.

Cheers.

Ok, I have obtained an answer from a friend of mine whom I just met today. The key is to set the PC sending raw audio to the System and let the System to configure 5.1 itself. So, change the settings in the PC to stereo, un-tick all enhancements, un-tick DTS, Dolby etc, let it be empty.

Cheers.
