How to play subtitles on usb?

Hello,

I want to play subtitles with a video on a usb stick to play it on a portable dvd player. The subs are srt.

I've already tried naming the subtitles and the video the same and putting them in the same folder but nothing seems to work.

Can somebody help me?

The player must have ability to read .srt, unfortunately most don't. Portable player means you are not able to use another, more capable software player? ur S.O.L.

Can't I convert srt to something else?
