How to replace vista with xp on Aspire 3050

I'm trying to install XP on an acer Aspire 3050 that was originally running Vista. There is a new hard drive in the machine and It's set to boot from disc but I keep getting a system protection error.

Any suggestions?

My guess would be that this is ACERs way of forcing you to deal with them whenever you want to mod your computer. I've seen custom BIOSs that only recognize HDDs supplied by the same OEM. Calling that "system protection" is probably a misnomer. Profit protection sounds more appropriate.

The computer came with Vista so acer can offer no support in installing XP. The best the guy could do was to tell me it could be done.
