When using HTC Vive on daily basis, you may encounter some issues with the HDMI Connection.
However many people are struggling with the same issue, and this guide will provide many solutions for the problem. You have to try some of the solutions and see what works for you.
List of possible solutions follows:

Solution 1. Thoroughly check if every HDMI cable is connected properly

  • ■ Check if all of the cables are properly connected in your PC
    ■ Also you have to check if the cables are properly connected on the headset itself. Not many people know that the cables on the headset are also detachable
Solution 2. Rebooting

  • ■ First Try to reboot the HTC Vive software, in many cases this will work
If that doesn’t work try rebooting your PC

Solution 3. Faulty HDMI cables, Error 208 - this is a generic HMD error message.

  • ■ You have to check if you have faulty HDMI cables. If all the cables are connected properly, but still no HDMI connection this may be the cause.
    ■ Get a new set of HDMI cables from a friend that are working for sure, and replace your current ones with the new set of cables. If the problem goes away, this means your HDMI cables are faulty
    ■ Check if your Link box is installed correctly. The orange tripped cables from the Headset need to be connected to the orange ports on the Link Box.
    ■ Make sure that you have the latest video drivers.
Solution 5. Update / roll-back your graphics card drivers

  • ■ If your graphics card drivers are out of date, this may be the cause for your problem. Old graphics card drivers may not support your VR Headset and by updating the drivers you will get support for your headset.
    ■ If you have the latest graphics card driver and having the issue, maybe the latest driver update has some faulty features in it that causes it. To fix this, try to roll-back to older drivers (basically the previous version or one before that) that were working well with your headset.
Hope this solutions will help you resolve your problems.
