How to turn off mic on laptop and use a plugin mic

i bought a microphone for my dell inspiron 5110 and want to plug and play but the laptop built in mic wont turn off and i cant get this external mic to pick up and work? thanks, dalton

Hello terrencedalton;

You don't actually need to turn off the built in mic.
Just choose the plug in mic as default in Windows control panel.

Adding your email and phone # in a public forum is never a good idea.

plug in your mic

right click "sounds" in the bottom right (the speaker icon)
Recording Devices>Choose new mic> Set as default 😀
