How to Unlock the HTC One M7, M8, and M9

Whether you’re ready to switch wireless carriers or plan to live outside the US for an extended period of time, you can bring your HTC One with you to a new carrier.

If you bought your phone on contract, it is probably locked to your current carrier. To unlock it, the phone must fulfill certain eligibility requirements:

[listNum]■All the financial dues including monthly bills and installments must be paid in full with no outstanding funds visible in your phone’s account whatsoever.
■The phone must be locked with the current carrier, and must be active and in use.
■The phone must not be reported stolen or lost.
■The IMEI number of the phone must not be blocked or blacklisted.

After confirming the eligibility of your HTC One, keep the following information on hand for your customer service representative:

[listNum]■The IMEI number of the phone that can be found by going to Settings > About phone > Phone identity, or by typing *#06#. IMEI number can also be found engraved on the SIM tray. You must power the phone off and eject the tray to get the IMEI number from there.
■10-digit subscriber number (mobile number) of your phone.
■The full name (first and last) of the owner of the phone.
■Type of current subscription, i.e. postpaid, prepaid, prior customer, etc.
■The email address that was registered with the carrier at the time of purchase.
■Last four digits of the SSN (Social Security Number) of the owner of the phone.
■Any password for the account.

Once the eligibility of your HTC One is confirmed and all the required information is handy, you can call your carrier’s customer care team. You can locate the section related to your wireless carrier below, and follow the instructions given there to place the unlock request, get the unlock code, and unlock your HTC One with least efforts:

Unlocking HTC One from AT&T
Dialing +1-(800)-331-0500 from your locked HTC One connects you to the AT&T customer support team. You can also visit https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/index.html#/ to connect to them. Provide the required information and ask them to approve your unlock request and provide you with the unlock code.

Upon receiving the unlock code (which will happen only after the unlock request has been processed and approved), here is how you can unlock your HTC One from AT&T, and open the phone to be used with other wireless carriers:

    ■Turn off your HTC One phone.
    ■Take the AT&T SIM card out.
    ■Insert a non-AT&T SIM card in the slot.
    ■Power the phone back on.
    ■Wait till the phone boots up completely.
    ■When the phone prompts for, proved the unlock code you received from AT&T.
    ■Tap OK to continue.
    ■Start using your HTC One with the new wireless carrier normally.


Unlocking HTC One from Sprint
Sprint offers two ways to unlock your HTC One, namely:

Domestic SIM Unlock (DSU) – When your HTC One phone is unlocked for DSU, it can be used by the different carriers that are only domestic in US. No international SIM can be used in such situation.

International SIM Unlock (ISU) – ISU, on the other hand, allows your HTC One phone to work only with international wireless carriers (and not with domestic ones). You may want to go for ISU when you plan to stay out of the US for an extended time period.

Once the unlock request has been processed and approved, and you get a unique HTC One unlock code from Sprint, here is how you can unlock your phone for DSU or ISU:

    ■Switch off your HTC One mobile phone.
    ■Replace the Sprint SIM with the non-Sprint one.
    ■Switch the phone back on.
    ■After the phone boots, provide the unlock code when it prompts.
    ■Tap OK to confirm and continue.
    ■Start using your phone with the different carrier normally.


Unlocking HTC One from T-Mobile
To place an unlock request for your HTC One to make it open for different wireless carriers, you must dial +1-(877)-746-0909 or visit https://support.t-mobile.com/community/contact-us and talk to theT-Mobile customer support team.

After your phone’s factory unlock request has been processed and approved, and you are provided with a unique unlock code for your HTC One, you can unlock the phone by following the steps given below:
    ■Turn off your HTC One mobile phone.

    ■Take out the T-Mobile SIM card.
    ■Insert a new SIM card from a different (non-T-Mobile) wireless carrier in the SIM slot.
    ■Turn the phone back on.
    ■Wait till the phone boots up properly.
    ■When the phone prompts, provide the unlock code that you received from T-Mobile.
    ■Start using your HTC One with your new carrier.

Unlocking HTC One from Verizon

Most Verizon locked mobile phones cannot be unlocked because of the CDMA technology that is used by the carrier. However, there are still some models that have a separate SIM slot, and such phones are already unlocked to be used by a different wireless carrier without any overhead or additional formalities.
