How to use another monitor with hp laptop with windows 7

I had this up and running the other day, and have forgotten how I did it! I can't seem to find the info that was pretty succinct. I am very computer illiterate, and need a step-by-step process for how to make the second monitor work w/ my laptop. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Your laptop have VGA and HDMI port(if latest). You just need to connect your monitor in vga or hdmi, whatever your monitor supports. Thats all you need to do.

If you want to to setup like dual display/extendend display, you can press F4 button in laptop and choose what you need. Or you can go to screen resolution and select what option you need.
