How to view conflicts?

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but I can't spot it...

(DirecTiVo with 6.2 software)

When I go to create a manual recording or a season pass then it tells me
what programs may not be recorded, and why. However, this is purely
based on the current guide data. Schedules can (and do!) change, so
what wasn't a conflict before may be a conflict at some point in the
future. Is there an easy way of seeing all current conflicted programs?
Even better would be a way to adjust priority for that single recording,
overriding the order in the season pass manager (although I could just
force a manual record in that case).

When you view the 2 do list, the first choice is recording history, use
it to see if a show will not be recorded and why.

Yes, I'd seen that one. Unfortunately you have to enter each program to
find out why it won't be recorded. Given that 99% of these are likely
to be that I cancelled them from a season pass (eg an episode of the
Simpsons I don't want to watch) or are because it's a duplicate of
something already in the todo list (eg a repeat showing of that weeks
Battlestar Galactica) this becomes slow and painful.

My Recording History has 42 items all flagged "Won't Record" for various
reasons and none are due to conflicts. An easier way to spot conflicts
would be very useful :)

While I agree its not the best, did you realize that once you have
'entered a program' that you can use the channel up/down to scroll
through? Slightly less painful than the in out you may have been doing
if you didnt know about that little feature ;)

Yes I did (that shortcut works in a few places) but it's still a pain. In
this case pressing ch- 41 times, rather than being able to see in a glance
whether there are any conflicts.

Heh, maybe this should have been posted to the "I miss my UTV" thread :)

With my hacked TiVo, I have a TiVoweb module called confres.itcl which is
"Conflict Resolve" and the stated goal is to "Attempt to schedule
conflicts on a networked TiVo". It is intended to find conflicts and
schedule them on another TiVo. If you have more than one TiVo, I would
HIGHLY recommend this module. If you only have one TiVo, I would
recommend this module. It does exactly what you want. You hit the button
and it brings up the shows which won't get recorded due to conflicts.
With only one TiVo, you can decide what to do at that point. With more
than one TiVo, you can attempt to schedule the conflicted show(s) onto the
other TiVo. Works great.

I only have the one; a DTiVo. I'm beginning to think I'm gonna have to
hack it. I wish there was a 6.2 hack, but I guess rolling back to 4.x
will be worth it, just for the networking and modules. Well, I deliberately
went for the Phillips 708 rather than the newer R10 just in case I wanted
to go down that path :)

Can you explain what the UTV does/did in this situation?

I'm just curious.

Does it even have something analogous to the SP manager?

Seems to me like setting the priority of your season passes is at least
a first cut at you telling it what shows you want recorded over others.
(I say a "first cut" because I usually look through the prime time listings
on my Tivos before I leave, for specials or something else airing.. but my
SP settings give it a first cut at figuring out what I want to record.
With a zillion tuners, I'd do less skimming through the listings.)

That is, I don't see what kind of information you're actually looking for.

In the "Upcoming recordings" list (similar to the todo list) it would
show the 3 programs that are scheduled to be recording at the same time
and will put a bright red CONFLICT sign next to the one that would fail
to be recorded and a dim red CONFLICT sign next to the other two, so you
could easily see what shows wouldn't be recorded, and why.

Similar signs also showed up in the guide, if you browsed the guide, on the
scheduled recordings and auto recordings pages and so on.

Entering the scheduled program that was in conflict would then give you an
option to resolve the conflict (ie cancel the one you don't want, so it
removes it from the upcoming recordings and thus removes the conflict).

> Does it even have something analogous to the SP manager?

UTV doesn't have the ability to priorise recordings the way that SP
manager does (the biggest win of TiVo over UTV); it merely prioritises
manual recordings over scheduled records (series recordings) over auto
recordings (wish lists).

> Seems to me like setting the priority of your season passes is at least

Yes; it's nice to tell TiVo "unless I tell you otherwise this is the
priority I want the programs recorded". It's the one feature UTV really
missed.

> That is, I don't see what kind of information you're actually looking for.

I want the ability to quickly see what the system has decided to do so that
I can override it. The options are there (in the future segment of the
recording history) but it's not so easy to use.

I can see how that would be useful -- essentially a merging of the To Do list
and the (future) Recording History on a Tivo now.

However, as someone with a LOT of Season Passes (I think I hit over 120
the other day, then I finally killed a few for cancelled shows and shows I'll
catch on DVD instead -- e.g. Veronica Mars & House), this would be a _LOT_
to wade through.

Though I don't do it every day (I probably do it every couple of days
while listening to something else in PIP), I go through the To Do list to
weed out some things I don't need to record, duplicate Daily Shows, etc.
If the To Do list _always_ had the merged conflict info in it, that'd be
a lot to go through.

Though I do wish there were some kind of icon or color difference or something
showing which show was already going to record while going through listings.
