I am have been debating abandoning desktops to go mobile for some time now. I'm about to move to work in a new city so its time to act. I must choose a system, in red trucks we have a HP dv9000t:

There's not alot of difference between the 7600 and the 7700 is there? So it comes down to quality. I've seen hp's I won't call them powerhouses but I know they are well built, tell me of your experiences with Asus.

uh easliy the Asus.

That hp has a $125 bump in price to go from a 7600 256 to a 7600 512, what rip off.

Isn't it obvious that the Asus comes loaded and the hp needs 50 overpriced options to come close.

Really go for the Asus G2 its only like $100 more for the 17".

Says "Asusman" When you think about it though, the HP already has a 17" screen with higher resolution (WSXGA+ is awesome on a 17" widescreen), so the higher price tag isn't all video card. I've also heard a lot of praise for the dv9000t at notebookreview.com. My vote is for the HP.


Edit: Go for 7200 RPM drives if you can. You'll appreciate them later. Speaking of drives, I didn't notice earlier that the HP has a RAID0 config. That's another +1 for the HP.

I've never really liked ATI cards since the 9800PRO (mine and 2 that my friend had burned themselves out at stock speeds in well ventilated cases). Plus the fact that according to your charts the x1700 is underpowered in comparison to the 7600 and 7700 makes me think the G2 wouldn't be a great investment. Just my opinion.

WOW, I hadn't realized the G2 had an x1700 gpu.. odd choice to change from the go7700. I haven't seen bench marks on the x1700 but the x1600 and go7600 weren't worlds apart.. just better at different games and situations so it was more of a teeder todder..(remember those things?) But my impression is the go7700 is stronger..maybe that's just good marketing?

I like both computers you are looking at. What's the warranty with the HP. The Asus G1 comes with a 2 year global warranty. If you like the power but want a smaller option try to find the Asus A8jp at 1299.. it's not as well built as the G1, but offers similar power in a 14" package

Dude I used to love teeder todders! I got the info from the link above ( http/www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html ) and judging by the scores I'd say the 7700 has a clear advantage.
