Question HP Elitebook 8440p while starting doesn't get to the select which OS I want

Hi everyone, my laptop battery went dead sometime back. I've been using the laptop with the power cable directly connected with the battery inside the laptop but it's been functioning like a TV or something. When power goes out, it switches off. I was told one day it would fail to start when this happens. I didn't expect it to be sooner. So what do I do to fix this? And also the BIOS has a password which I don't know.
