HP-G60-235DX Won't power on? and other mysteries of life.

Recently received a new to me laptop. I added GLARY UTILITES,AVG, and CCLEANER.
Ran through everything fixed some problems (registry fix's with glary) was working fine. Last night i received a new (HP) power cord plugged that in closed the laptop and left it to charge. I noticed later the laptop was continously running, (may have been running for 20 minutes) i open the laptop to shutdown and it wouldn't wake up. So then i move to turning it off...it won't turn off. In a panic i pull the battery and then replace the battery and wahla we now have in my current state a laptop that wont turn on at all. I've tried the 30 second remove and replace with no luck. I have one light the power light on te front of the laptop and that is all. When i plugged in the laptop to charge before all this happend it was at 56%...where to go from here?

( UPDATE!!!! ) AH-HA! another twist...i went to work my wife was home she decided to try and turn it on and it turned it on...now after that told her to shut it down PROPERLY, it shut down normally and yet the power light on the top of the keyboard stays on and the same result happens and now it won't turn on again while the power button says its alive!

((( UPDATE!!! ))) Thanks for all who have read this post. Swapped the battery out with another laptop battery and it worked fine. So at the end of all the worry it was a bad battery.
