HP G71 black & grey stripe on screen

I have a HP G71 laptop and on the right side of the laptop screen there is about a one inch black & grey stripe with a thin white line in the middle running vertical. Tried booting in safe mode and still the same issue. I plugged in a external monitor and the graphics look fine. Do I need to replace the screen or lcd converter? Does anybody know what is causing this to happen? Please help if you can. Thanks!

Before changing the screen you could look at the ribbon for the screen, see if the connections are good, open and close partially the lid to see if the problem is with the ribbon. If nothing works you need to changed the screen for a new one.

Oh another thing is those stripes also show up as soon as the laptop boots up.

If your problem is from the beginning of booting, not from Windows, the problem it's surely your screen or something else like the ribbon.
