Hello, I am repairing an HP G71 laptop for someone. It won't start - when you plug in the charger, the charging light comes on for a second, and then goes off (every time it is plugged in). When the battery is in and the charger is also and the power button is pressed, the lights quickly flash three times. I first replaced the DC jack - it did not help. Then I read somewhere that the three quick light flashes meant a bad AC circuit on the motherboard, so I replaced the motherboard. It now has the exactly same symptoms. What else should I try to fix this laptop? Thanks.

If you replaced the mother board which receives and distributes the power and the power supply then likely your problem is something else. I would assume it may be the ram. I've had times where it would not boot up because the ram sticks were bad or not matching. Try taking one out and booting. If nothing then try swapping and booting again. If nothing try removing both and booting.

Are you positive it's not starting? Can you hear or see the fan running? Is the hard drive making noise? if these are running/making noise then likely you have a bad monitor. and are just unable to see that it is powered on. If this is the case try plugging laptop into external monitor and try booting from there.

Hi, sorry for wasting your time, I accidentally used the wrong charger (incorrect voltage). Thanks for your answer. The charger port I had initially replaced was indeed the problem.
