Hi,

I have a HP G6 2313AX laptop which is nearly 3 yrs old. All of a sudden, my keyboard doesn’t seem to work. The thing is that the function keys (f1,f2,...) all those seem to work fine. It’s the alphabets & number keys.
• When I press hard on the keyboard, it starts working for a few mins.
• Most of the times, ‘7’ appears randomly on my screen typing space without even pressing that key ( that key doesn’t look out of place to me )
• Once, when I restarted it gave me a beep sound for quite some time until I had to shut it off without even logging in.
• I tried this hard reset method mentioned here (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/pavilion-g6-laptop-keyboard-not-working/td-p/2483611) which appeared to work fine for a couple of mins after restart but the prob returned.
• HP site here (http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03738933) asked to uninstall the keyboard driver but again no use.
• Sometimes, the touchpad seems to go offline and keyboard comes ON and vice versa as well.
• Tried this ‘Control Panel Accessibility Settings’ (http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-2067432/unlock-keyboard-pavilion-touchsmart-laptop.html) as well but no use.

DETAILS:
OS: Windows 8
Processor: AMD A10

Since the function keys work, I guess its not a hardware issue but I could be wrong as well.

Really require your help guys! In case of any more details abt the issue, pls feel free to ask me.

Appreciate all the assistance I get !! :)

Thanks,
Ganesh

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that I've suggested to others who had the same problem.

- Start by uninstalling/reinstalling the keyboard driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the keyboard driver then reboot your laptop. It will reinstall the driver automatically.
- Next is to make sure that Keyboard settings are all set to United States.
- If all these will not work try an external USB keyboard and see if the same problem will persist because if it will not happen you'll need to do a complete factory reset.
- How to perform System Recovery: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03489643
- And if the factory reset will not work the only solution would be to replace the keyboard itself.
