Hp Pavilion 17 Laptop charging issue

My issue with the laptop is that when plugged in and turned off, the battery will charged as indicated by the light, but when plugged in and turned on, the battery stops charging. It does not give the "plugged in, not charging" indicator that another user had an issue with, it is as though the charger is just unplugged... but it isn't.

I'm thinking since the battery charges when plugged in and turned off, that both the charging board and dc in jack are working properly, meaning the motherboard must be the issue and need to be replaced.

I would like some input on my idea of the situation, thanks for any input.

It is possibly the motherboard.

However it's more likely an issue with the Battery itself. I would try a new battery first.

Is the battery geniune?

Yeah it's a genuine battery, came with the laptop. But the laptop itself is fairly old, so it's possible the battery is... now bad? Lol, I'll look into it.
