HP Pavilion screen going black (not movement related)

My laptop screen recently been going black randomly. It is typically black on booting. When I plug an external monitor into it, the monitor has no issues whether the laptop screen is black or not (so not GPU issue). The screen will usually come back on on its own after some time, but then will periodically flash out or just go black for extended periods. Moving the screen or sudden movement of the laptop seems to have no effect while the screen is active or blacked out so I don't think its a ribbon cable.

Specs: HP Pavilion x360 Convertable Laptop - 10t Touch
Intel i3-6100U 2.30GHz
6GB Ram
Windows 10 Home

The computer is about 1 year old and has seen minimal use. (3 times per month at most for maybe an hour each time)

is it still under warranty? We had one brought into our store for repair with the same issues, it was still under HP warranty, so we sent it back to HP, they sent us the laptop back, they replaced the screen.
