HP Pavillion G6 screen goes black when power supply gets plugged in

Hi,

my brother has a very strange problem with his 5 year old HP Pavillion G6.
The notebook runs perfectly fine while running on battery. As soon as you plug in the power supply the screen goes black after 3-4 seconds.

If you try to start up the notebook with the power supply plugged in the laptop will power on but the screen stays black. (You can hear the fan running and the keyboard backlight goes on)

Does anyone know how to narrow the problem or, if possible even fix it?

We already changed the battery and the power supply, so that shouldnt be the problem.

Hi,

Since both hardware has been replaced it should be the setting of your laptop or the actual operating system itself.
- Do change the Power Option of your laptop.
- Go to Control Panel and look for Power Options
- Click on Change plan Settings on the power plan that is selected.
- Click again on Change advanced power settings
- Look for Processor power management and set them to 100% and Active.
- Click Apply and OK for all the changes to take effect.
- Next is change the power option as well in AMD or Catalyst Control Center
- To access Catalyst Control Center right click on desktop and you should find it there.
- If all these steps doesn't work you may need to perform a Factory reset with your laptop.

When you plug the cable the refresh rate changes. Intel HD manager has an option that if you have it enabled it will change the refresh rate everytime you change to AC or battery. Disable that option and you will be ok. Make sure you will keep the highest refresh rate in AC options
