HX4700 Lag and choppy scrolling

Hiya all

I have a iPAQ HX4705 and have noticed that after a soft reset that
upon tapping on the start button, there is a lag before the main pull
down menu appears. I noticed when selecting to go to the programs
screen and scrolling down through the icons of available program that
it seems to scroll choppy. These issues only seem to occur initially
after a soft reset and after one time they seem to clear up until I
either soft reset again or the unti sits in the powered down stat for
a few minutes and then they are back for the initial attempt at
either.

Has anyone else seen this or know of a solution?

I've observed this behavior on several higher end iPAQ's, including the
4700. Not sure a 'solution' is really warranted, as it just occurs for
a few seconds after a reset.

It's just not that big a deal.

Yes. I notice the same with my 4700. It sorts itself out after a few
minutes.

I find the hx4700 series to be very sluggish in performance. I've used over a dozen different ones. Compared to an hx2410 with the same suite of applications ... the 2410 is snappy and quick no matter what the task.

Try running HP's iPaq Navigation System on the hx4700 ... you'll be ready to pitch the darn thing. So slow to zoom in/out and don't even try to switch to your inbox while it's running.

Do the same things on the 2410 and it never skips a beat.

I think HP knows and is just not telling ... they have a BIG problem to resolve with the hx4700 series.

I have noticed that some 3rd party applications do not run reliably, or
slower on the 4700. Most run fine though and take advantage of its
faster CPU. I think you may just be unlucky enough to have a bunch that
don't. Of my 5 'must have' 3rd part apps, only one is problematic.

Possibly the case .... but the most problematic software is HP's own 'Ipaq Navigation System'.

Yeah, I'm wondering what value it adds. Yes, you can use it like a
notebook, but so what? It's quicker to use the stylus.

If I had only one hand this would the PPC of choice. You can hold the
device and use the thumb for the touch pad using one hand alone.

Exactly. Slow performance of the GUI after a reset is completely normal.
After a reset of the device (which is a reboot) the O/S is busy loading
drivers and re-establishing its memory context. Just wait a minute or so
and it will settle down. Any O/S has a settling-in period after a reboot to
build it's swap tables, memory footprint, etc. This is not specific to any
particular brand or type of PC - it's just how things work.
