As the title says..

and one more question in the forum i ve read for the Cloud 2 "another factor to consider:

you will NOT want to use the software or usb soundcard that comes with the v2 as it is well known to be junk and cause all sorts of audio quality issues.

when making your decision take the software and virtual 7.1 out of the equation. many prefer the v1 over the v2 because of this. "

So if you use the headset with the 3.5mm jack and motherboard or sound card it is fine?

You don't have to use the USB so you will be fine without it. The dongle just connects to the 3.5mm jack at the end of the wire connected to the headset and just modifies the sound, so it is not required.

The HyperX Cloud Core is identical to the Cloud 2 but doesn't include (just so its easier to see):
- 2 sets of earcups (only includes the leatherette ones)
- The USB adapter
- A cable extender with inline controls (just has a cable extender)

My belief is that they brought out the Cloud Core to replace the Cloud 1 since it doesn't have a place in the market at it's price point without the USB dongle.

From the looks of it, your probably best off going with the HyperX Cloud's. The Sennheiser doesn't look particulary great and reviews seem pretty average for it. TBH, it might be worth your while to look at the Hyperx Cloud Core's if you do decide to get a Cloud because it is exactly the same headphones as the cloud but without the inline controls but you save heaps.

I've got a Cloud Core and they are seriously comfortable. They also have really good passive noise dampening. Although the sound quality is very good, they don't have much bass (it's still there and sounds great but it isn't as emphasized as most gaming headsets so you might want to give it a miss if you want that). I've also got it connected to an Asus Xonar DG. The directional sound with a sound card and these are also really good.

the hxc soundcard used to have a major issue with the software. i believe (based on what i've heard from some owners) that this is fixed. i have heard about some build quality issue related things but thats all i've heard for awhile now so i think its mostly cleared up.

yes, the core version is the headset without accessories. certainly worthwhile if you dont want the accessories. with the money you saved you can buy a xonar dg or similar if your onboard is not sufficient or if your onboard has no virtual surround.

pc350se (which is in the same family and very similar to: game zero, pc363d, hd595/hd555) is going to be very bass light. its mostly meant for fps gaming and advantage where low bass is ideal.

another thing to consider is the hd518 or better yet the hd558 and pairing it up with a microphone and perhaps soundcard. or, if you want a bass light sound (for fps advantage) the ad500x + mic + soundcard. soundcard of course is optional if your onboard audio is fine.

just between the 350se and hxc? i'd get the hxc

Software might have been fixed, but people here are still having issues with over-sensitivity to USB 5V power noise with some PSU/mobo/GPU combinations. Practically every other "cloud 2 is noisy" complaint ends up being power related!

And yes, Core = Cloud 2 - usb soundcard, so it ends up being cheaper especially if you don't want to use that soundcard

I have several Sennheiser and HyperX headsets (PC350, PC363D, Game one and zero, Cloud I and II), and always prefer any Sennheiser over Cloud. PC350 (with soundcard amp, xonar essence xts II) blows Cloud out of water with its clarity and superior mic.
