i broke the input connector in the sound bar for the optical wire, can i use the usb connection instead?

As has been said above paying a tech to repair it won't usually be worth the price
Since the optical jack just holds the cable in place and isn't an electrical connector you might be able to glue it back in place. You will have to open up the soundbar to try it.
 
If your Visio sound bar has standard type A USB input, it is for playing media off USB flash drives. If it is microUSB, it is for charging. In neither case it will play sound if you connect over this port **somehow** to your TV.
