Games and other misc. applications have been hanging on me lately under Windows 7 64-bit. I have used every program written which is suppose to be able to terminate a process but none of them can. Even the Terminator in Process Hacker 2 with everything check-marked just gives me red X's on everything.

I can't shut down the computer without pushing the reset button or holding down the power button.

Anyone have any idea on what to look for?

I'm running Avast and have trying using several anti-malware tools but have found nothing. I have never had an infection of any type in years and I am an advanced computer user (my career is computer tech for over 17 years now).

I can't figure out what is causing this to happen.

"it's often the case that the registry will either have too many settings that are open at once, or your system will be confused with all the files it has open - leading it to save many of the settings it has in the wrong way. This is the main reason why Windows 7 has shut down issues, and is actually one of the easiest problems to fix, if you use a "registry cleaner".
