i have a g7 and it says plugged in not charging win 8.1

it works on ac power but if it gets unplugged it goes dead

Sounds like a mobile device with a dead/missing battery.

Check that the battery is not damaged and re-attach it to the laptop. If it still doesn't charge the battery is probably damaged or dead.
