I have a Onkyo TX-NR 509 Reciever..

i turn it on and it stays on less then a minute and shuts off.. i opened it and i hear a clicking noises in a small transformer SN2301812A and on another board i see some relays closing and making contact as they both click .. after a few seconds goes by they both click and the relays open back and the unit goes off.. everything seems to function and i have reset the unit and nothing is attached to the unit and it still shuts off.. i feel it has to be an easy fix and far less expensive then buying a new unit.. do you have any ideas how to fix this?

Sounds like the receiver is going into protection. There is more than one possible cause for this including a blown amp channel. This might be because of a bad HDMI board that Onkyo has a recall program to repair for free.
Check with Onkyo.
