I have a Pioneer VSXD508 receiver and LG TV (LB56) .I connected the Optical output from the TV to the Optical input of the receiver to get a better sound but failed.I selected OPTICAL speakers from the TV.I did not succeed.Can someone help me.

On most surround receivers you have to assign a digital input (say opt 1) to an input (say TV) before you can access it. There is a button on the Pioneer remote, signal select, for doing this. Here is the manual
