I have an Acer es511, done everything possible.press power and fan comes on and stays on. screen stays black

First, try to connect your laptop to monitor using VGA cable. If it still did not solve the problem, you might want to check your hard disk or RAM

No point checking the HDD or the RAM as neither of them being being faulty would cause blank screen.

Yes, try an external monitor , at least previous poster is right with that - LOL.

If external monitor works okay, the screen backlight may have blown (it's replaceable).
If external monitor doesn't work either, the GPU may have failed (usually means a new motherboard on a laptop).
