My Asus x551m isnt turning on. I have done many of the things I found on here and it's still not working. Both lights turn on, the red and green, but wont start. I did unplug it and take the battery out and press the power button for 1minute replace the battery and turn it on. This process helped for a bit but wont do anything anymore. I have also plugged it into an external monitor to see if it's the LCD bud that hasn't worked either. I did finally replace the battery that hasn't helped. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

When you see the lights on do you also hear any sounds internally? That will tell you if it is on or not. If you do then it could be the cable that connects the display, the display or the GPU. You said you attached an external monitor, however if not done correctly it may not show anything. Try the following...

  1. Turn the laptop off (not sleep or hibernate but off).
  2. Connect an external monitor to the laptop.
  3. Turn on the external monitor.
  4. Turn on the laptop.

NOTE: You may have to press an "external monitor" button. Could be the f4 button or a button with two monitors on it, for the external monitor to work.

If you can see fine on the external monitor, then your attached display, or the ribbon cable that connects...

If you can see fine on the external monitor, then your attached display, or the ribbon cable that connects it, are your problem.

If you can't see on the external monitor at all, or the problem occurs on the external monitor as well, then it is probably the graphics card/GPU that is the problem, which may require the motherboard be replaced.

You may also want to try hitting CTRL + SHIFT + WIN + B to try and reset your graphics driver as another possible fix.
