Yesterday my acer netbook powered down with a "low battery" despite being plugged in to mains. I assumed the cable wasn't in properly and it was working again after a reliable, today same thing and it's totally died. I did get the battery light to flash orange a couple of times but now nothing. I suspect the power cable is faulty but anyone got any ideas?
 
Try changing the fuse in the power-adapter's mains plug, it may have blown.

If that makes no difference, it may be one of the reasons below:

1) The thin cable (that plugs in to the laptop's power jack) may have a break in it.
2) The power connector jack itself may be damaged internally.
3) The power adapter itself may have packed up.
