I have tried to do the paperclip in the pinhole trick and that didnt work. I took the front pannel off of the cd drive to see

1| Make and model of your laptop?
2| Can you state if there was a disc caught in the drive sled or are you simply trying to pry open the optical drive's sled?

The spring that helps to ejects the tray may be broken. You might have to remove it and disassemble to check - or just buy a replacement. They're cheap enough.
