I need help with getting my laptop on line

I am ahving trouble getting my laptop on line. My desk top is working fine

Do you connect it wireless, through a router...?

First of all we need to know how you are trying to connect to the internet.
The most common ways are through a broadband connection.
These can come in two forms fiber optic or, adsl.
Adsl in some cases requires a username and a password to be logged in before use.
If you are using an adsl router the settings can be found by logging into the router to put the username and password in.

also check in you router if the mac address of the laptop is in the wireless settings as one is permit to connect if not then you wont be able to use the wireless part on the router see you router settings how to do it
