I need help with my keyboard speed...

I own a PC and I recently changed my keyboard because my other keyboard stopped working. The problem is that the new keyboard I put is too slow and can't keep up with me. Every button I press takes about 1 to 2 seconds to pop up on the computer. I need help figuring out how to fix this. More information will be below.

Is it possible that it simply wasn't connected properly when you replaced the keyboard?
