i plugged my external mouse on my laptop and is not working ..why?

i plugged my external mouse on my laptop the light under the mouse is working but the pointer is not moving..what to do?
pls help

You may need to download drivers for it to work. Just look under the mouse, you should see its brand and some numbers next to it. Just write "brand + numbers + driver" on google and download/install these drivers.
