i put in a new hard drive computer boots up but i cant get into the bios function 2

I have a hp laptop. my hard drive did a failure. wouldnt boot or anything. i replaced hard drive that has no windows software on it. (raw). I thought I could format and then install windows 7 on it. i can get the computer to start goes to a screen but i can not get into system dianose f2? any ideas?

HP laptop's often have the user press the function keys to get into BIOS. Have you tried pressing on F10, F12 or the Del Key or even on ESC? Can you at least see the motherboard/HP splash screen when you power up your system? Can you please pass on the model or SKU for your HP laptop?
